About me
After a career in landscape architecture I found a new direction and joy in working with clay. Starting with evening classes I became more and more immersed in ceramics gaining a HND in Ceramics at Morley College in 2020. My fascination with the natural world and the urban environment is expressed through my vessels and sculptural pieces. I now work in a studio at Thames-side Studios in south east London finding the community of craftspeople and artists and the close presence of the river inspiring.
About my work
My recent work is inspired by vivid green spring leaves. I build the vessels using thin slabs that are inscribed with regular grid patterns. I manipulate the slabs to add rhythmical relief textures. The aim is to balance the simple geometry with elements of chance making the pieces soothing but also visually rich.
This process also creates contrasting textures on the outside and the inside of the pieces echoing the subtle difference in colour and texture between the tops and the undersides of leaves.
The forms and textures are highlighted by the chrome green glaze.
